Swim amongst turtles in this one-of-a-kind activity. The turtle sanctuary snorkeling is a majestic experience not many know about, the opportunity to capture a glimpse of these peaceful sea turtles in their natural environment is a must.
Journey to the famous El Cielo, this famous sandbar known as ‘Where heaven meets the sky’. Along the way you will have the opportunity to snorkel in some of the most beautiful reefs encountering eagle rays, lobsters, and tropical fish. Explore the marine gardens complete with colorful sea fans and black coral found along the Mesoamerican barrier reef.
The arrival at El Cielito is the destination you have been waiting for. Here you'll find yourself living it up on the white sandbar with crystal clear waters, while indulging in a banquet of ceviche and tropical fruits, served with ice-cold margaritas, beers, and refreshments.
- Arriving at your meeting point, you will receive a quick introduction and the remaining balance will be collected.
- Your host will equip you with your new snorkel tube, courtesy of us at Safe Tours Cozumel.
- You will board the panga boat, a guide on board will explain the safety measures and protocols for your cruising experience.
- Departure from the pier. The trip to the first point takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes. Additional passengers may be picked up along the way.
- The guide will give you instructions to follow while underwater, as well as how to properly use your equipment. It is essential to pay attention. Then it will be time to jump into the sea.
- On the way you will stop at two other reefs, where you will see the largest coral formations and sea creatures and spend around 30 minutes snorkeling each reef.
- You will journey to the turtle sanctuary and “El Cielo”, there you will spend approximately 10-20 minutes at each spot. You will be able to see the beautiful starfish on the sandy floor and stingrays swimming nearby. This will be your chance to swim with turtles.
- Afterwards, the boat will take you to the last destination, where you will spend the rest of your time on this majestic sandbank known as “El Cielito”. Here you can relax, the water is shallow so that you can sit on the sand. Snacks of ceviche, fruits and ice-cold refreshments like beer, Margaritas, sodas and water will be served by the crew.
- The boat will take you back to your meeting point to conclude your snorkeling adventure.

- It is important to be aware that the remaining balance will be charged at the meeting point (preferably in cash). Credit cards may be used, but you will have to pay the added 10% bank commission.
- This activity is not for children under the age of 3.
- All Participants must have basic swimming skills.
- IMPORTANT: We are committed to protecting the ocean environment and the Mesoamerican Barrier reef; therefore, the use of any type of sunscreen, sunblock, or suntan lotion which could eventually make its way into the ocean is no longer allowed. We suggest the use of long-sleeved UV-filtering shirts, hats, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun. Coral, fish, and all other sea creatures thank you for your cooperation!
- DISCLAIMER: This activity is not done in captivity, the likelihood of seeing sea turtles and starfish is extremely high, but there are factors to consider.
- MEETING POINTS: The tour will last 4 hours for passengers departing from the downtown ferry pier due to transportation, and 3.5 hours for those departing from El Cid La Ceiba Hotel. This doesn’t affect the time spent in the water.
